Headrick deftly develops the characters of Jesop and his family and friends so that the reader is quickly absorbed in their lives and trials. Some of the incidents seem absurd and fantastic in some ways. But Headrick's talent shines through as he transforms the most unlikely materials into a work of literary art. The novel is eminently readable, with a style reminiscent of Mark Twain at his best. This rare, sensational first novel will leave the reader yearning to about the exploits of young Jesop and the tender, if sometimes troubled, romance between his parents.

What a fantastic book!!! I just read my Kindle edition and i couldn't put it down! There was such great character development And the author did such an amazing job with imagery The story line with the Louisiana voodoo is so creative and different. I can't wait for Jesop to start learning more of his "chosen" skills and see how all that will play out in the next book. This book wrapped up nicely so you are not left feeling unsatisfied, but it left enough loose ends that you can't wait to read the sequel!

I downloaded the Kindle version. Wonderfully written! I quickly became engaged. I think this book is headed to the top! The lead character, eleven Dating online Headrick old Jesop Arnaud, is an iconic hero. He symbolizes the possibility of victory in a mismatched struggle: the weak against the strong, good vs. Even though he is armed with magical powers, this is a hard battle, and requires both wits and bravery to win it against the Voodoo queen. Set in around the Luisiana swampland during the Civil Rights Movement, this story brings you into the scene using detailed, sensual descriptions that let you feel it as if you were seeing, smelling and hearing this for yourself: "Delicate pink swamp roses, dramatic purple thistle stamens, bright orange trumpet vines, passion flowers, and many other flora that pleasured the eye prospered alongside lemon grass, chest high basil, pineapple sage and butterfly ginger - equally delighting one's sense of smell and encouraging the busy nectar-seeking honey bees.

Although the garden appeared untended and unplanned, it suffused the abode with mystery and magic. This is a complex story, which is hard to classify into a genre.
