I n opposition to the smug marrieds, we singletons have always liked to position ourselves on the frontline of life, squaring off against creeps and weirdos in our valiant search for love.
A lady in her third Season. A lord who is a rake. A case of mistaken identity changes their lives. Miss Julianna Martins has never allowed herself a moment to consider the rakes of London. However, a moment of mistaken identity sets her into a whirlwind of both horror and delight — and she is forced to wed a rake she has never once set eyes on before.
Lord Altringham enjoys the London pleasures and is considered to be a rake. When he drunkenly confuses Julianna with one of his paramours, society demands he marry a lady he never met. When her husband leaves her in the country and returns to London, Julianna plucks up the courage to take a step forward in her life. With the help of a trusted friend, she sets out to force her husband to not only engage with her but perhaps, just perhaps, fall in love with her too. Grab your copy today!

Verified Purchase. To avoid the harsh judgment of society, Julianna must marry the man or live in shame. After waiting around a few weeks, Julianna and her grandmother, Lady Newfield, follow him to London, as Julianna tries to win the favor of her errant husband. When attacks begin on Lord Altringham and someone tries to kill him, I found it difficult not to smile.
She was so fortunate Lady Newfield had an explanation that rescued her good name. It was refreshing to see the two ladies step up to the challenge and go after Lord Altringham to correct the unjust situation he left her in.
This story was full of rakes and wastrels and even a whodunit with a nefarious character: A gambling, drinking father searching for a wealthy gentleman to marry his daughter, a rake who loved all the ladies and got caught up in societal strictures which forced him to marry the heroine, Julianna, because he kissed her at a public ball while he was drunk. Thus, their "courtship" after marriage was slow to start with many problems along the way Now you'll have to read the story for yourself to find out how it all ended for Lord Altringham and Miss Martins!
The picture of the heroine on the cover is very pretty. Searching for love can be full of choices, good or bad. Julianna and Lord Altringham were forced to marry because he mistakenly thought she was someone else. Married, but separated after he drops her off at his estate. What does she do then. Seeks advice from another lady and acts on it. This creates a very good plot with good characters who work through to the ending. I accepted this book freely and voluntarily give my opinion.
Julianne is the daughter of a terrible man who wants her to marry a rich man so he can spend her money. Her grandmother takes her to her third season to make sure she finds a husband. Things do no go well when a rake kisses Julianne and they are forced to marry.
He sends her to his estate and he returns to London, but Julianne is not so easily put away. It is a twist on a story I have read before, it was either by Barbara Cartland or another author. This one is okay, and only a bit repetitious.

At least it was clean. One person found this helpful. This was quite interesting and very enjoyable. Having to marry someone because you kissed them is a bit harsh especially when it was a mistake.
Not recognizing them after marrying them is also a bit weird but it was a very enjoyable story. It just wasnt an interesting read, put it down several times then donated to library. This regency romance is filled with great characters and plenty of excitement and tension. I enjoyed this story from start to finish.
See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. A very readable story, Julianna was such a lovely girl, blighted by her her horrible father and then by her horrible husband initially. The arrogant, spoilt rake of a man, Lord Altringham ruined Julianna's third attempt at 'come out' and she would have languished in the country had it not been for her dear grandmama Lady Newfield prodding her into action. Each time something happened to Lord Altringham I couldn't help but cheer, for it was what he deserved, but Julianna grew to love him.
An excellent story by Rose and I would thoroughly recommend it, and her books are so reasonably priced. I look forward to the next in the series. Report abuse. Great storyline Julianna and Thomas both trapped into a marriage neither really wanted.
Julianna was helping Thomas and he did not know why, she could not tell him the truth,Lots of twist and turns and Thomas being his usual self a Rake and selfish person.
